Alastair (Alec) Thornton, AIA
Associate

“To create spaces from nothing requires collaboration from numerous disciplines; architecture is the successful result of that collaboration.”

Alec’s thoughtful design philosophy favors an honest expression of building materials to clearly convey a sense of a building’s structure and components. A keen eye for proportions and color, strong technical knowledge, and efficiency are among the many resources he contributes to the project team.

Through his deep understanding of Revit and other graphic software applications, Alec has the highly valued ability to assist LCM team members and clients in visualizing options to resolve complex design challenges. For the comprehensive rehabilitation of the historic Natural History Building on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, Alec applied his technical proficiency and ingenuity in the analysis of historic buildings to help the team find workable solutions for the installation of new building systems and other design elements despite the difficulty of unique existing conditions.
