The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign sought LCM ADA consulting services to evaluate nine campus facilities and 10 student housing complexes for program accessibility.
Using the technical standards of the 1991 and 2010 ADA Standards, non-compliant elements that prohibit access were recommended for modifications to update the University’s ADA Title II Transition Plan. The university became the first higher education institution to provide a support service program to students with disabilities.
Considering program accessibility and system-wide dispersion, our reports assigned the priorities to remove barriers in areas including:
- exterior routes to a facility
- entrances
- interior routes to program areas
- doorways to learning spaces
- sleeping rooms
- shower rooms
- common areas
- wheelchair locations with companion seating in lecture centers
- toilets
- drinking fountains
- directional signage
