Committed to serving a diverse community, the University sought to establish an implementation plan for enhancing campus accessibility. LCM conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing buildings, parking, and exterior routes; identified elements not in compliance with ADA Title III standards and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; developed data collection tools and a database to compile findings; identified gaps between regulatory requirements and University design standards; and established a system to prioritize remediation projects. We also developed accessibility design guidelines for common spaces.
Currently, LCM collaborates with the University to analyze projects within the context of business processes, future capital projects, repair and renewal projects, adjacent spaces/programs, and operational practices. We also consult on how to incorporate universal design concepts in projects and we review new plans to confirm compliance with applicable accessibility codes.
