Barrier Removal Plan

LCM evaluated accessibility compliance of exterior routes and 48 facilities to help Lehigh University develop an ADA Physical Access Plan. We assessed facilities on the Asa Parker, Goodman, and Mountaintop campuses as well as two other sites. Our assessments were based on ADA Title III, 1991 and 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. We also considered program access requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

In addition to walkways, we evaluated parking, classroom and lecture centers, laboratories, student residences, and athletic facilities. A majority of the buildings were of pre-ADA vintage and the campus topography was challenging. These circumstances called for LCM’s experienced interpretation of multiple accessibility standards and thoughtful application to the unique conditions.

A detailed, illustrated report identified noncompliant elements. We prioritized recommended modifications to help the University plan for the removal of program and physical barriers over time.
