Design & Construction Resource Call Center
Nearly 40,000,000 multifamily buildings are subject to the design and construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act. Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST is an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to promote compliance. LCM is the Program Manager of this nationwide program, which provides technical guidance to the public through a comprehensive training curriculum, a toll-free Design and Construction Resource Center information line, and a website.
Training is an important part of the program. LCM provides free live training events and a series of webinars to architects, developers, contractors, code officials, property managers, landscape architects, and civil engineers. The instruction curriculum consists of 11 modules covering disability rights laws; FHA enforcement; accessible routes; accessible public and common-use areas; strategies for compliant kitchens and bathrooms; dwelling unit requirements; common design and construction violations and solutions; and making housing accessible through accommodations and modifications.
