Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative

Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative
Due Diligence
As an Accessibility Expert for the Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative, LCM surveys healthcare facilities to identify physical conditions not in compliance with the ADA. Our reports recommend barrier removal solutions that would enable access by persons with disabilities. Enforcement authorities rely on this information to reach agreements with healthcare providers.
The U.S. Department of Justice in 2012 launched the Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative as partnership with the Department’s Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorneys throughout the nation. The intent is to verify that rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and other healthcare services facilities provide equal access to people with disabilities. Enforcement efforts address physical access to healthcare facilities as well as access to services through effective communication with all users.
Healthcare facilities we have assessed as part of the Barrier-Free Health Care Initiative include:
- Tufts Medical Center and Floating Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA
- Hazelden Betty Ford Center, Rancho Mirage, CA
- Dentistry of the Carolinas, Charlotte, NC
- Charlotte Radiology, survey of 3 sites, Charlotte & Mooresville, NC
