Returning to the Office: Safety in Design & Transportation, May 2020
The AIA Illinois, Chicago, Eastern, Northeast, and Prairie chapters hosted a series of virtual town hall to assist the architecture community prepare for returning to their offices after the Covid 19 Stay at Home Order. LCM Partner Doug Anderson offered suggestions for providing accessibility of public accommodations as companies develop plans and design modifications for the safe return of staff to the office.
20th Annual Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion, and Disability Conference, April 2020
Hosted by The Ohio State university ADA Coordinator’s Office, the conference brings a diverse audience together to discuss the full spectrum of disability issues and experiences. LCM Associate Principal, Kate Gonzales led ‘Ready to Wear? Personal Style, Wellbeing, and Adaptive Fashion’. The workshop explored self expression through personal style and how apparel options that defy body shape, gender, or disability affects consumers and businesses.
Design and Construction Summit, March 2020
Continental Properties hosts an annual Design and Construction Summit for their project partners including general contractors, architects, and engineers. Summits address topics affecting apartment, retail, and hospitality real estate across the nation. LCM Partner Mark Small presented ‘Changes in Prototype Drawings and Common Accessibility Errors Found in the Field’.
Lorman Education Services Webinars, 2020
LCM Partners Doug Anderson and Jack Catlin presented ‘ADA Compliant Curb Ramps: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. Failing to properly design features constructed in the public way puts citizens at risk of injury and municipalities at risk of legal and financial issues. Understanding proper design methodology mitigates those risks for everyone’s benefit.
LCM Partner Doug Anderson presented ‘ADA Accessibility: Is Your Property in Compliance’. The session helps public and private entities understand which ADA requirements apply to their properties and what future alterations may trigger additional requirements. Specific examples include hotels, student housing, medical care facilities, restaurants and banks.
