Doug Anderson Chairs ANSI Accessibility Task Group
LCM Architects Partner Doug Anderson was appointed Chair of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A117.1 Accessible Bathing Task Group.
Doug is leading 25+ accessibility specialists to review safety and functionality issues of required accessible bathing/shower fixtures and accessories. ANSI design and construction standards for tubs, transfer showers, and roll-in showers for all occupancies are under data-driven evaluation. The group is addressing elements such as grab bars, enclosures, seats, drains, thresholds, and dispensers. A report of review findings will include recommendations for modifying standards, where applicable. The ANSI Accessibility Committee will consider the group’s recommended changes for future revisions to the current ANSI A117.1 Standards.
ANSI administers and facilitates the development of national consensus standards for public and private sector industries. Doug joined the ANSI Accessibility Committee in 2015 on behalf of the American Hotel and Lodging Association. He participated in revising the most recent ANSI A117.1 Standards for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, issued in 2017.
