RIC Activities of Daily Living Apartment

Rehab Institute of Chicago ADL Apartment Entry Are

When patients of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago prepare to leave the facility and return home, they need to be equipped with the ability to handle the physical challenges of day-to-day life. The Activities of Daily Living (ADL) apartment is used to test patients’ ability and train them to cope with furniture, fixtures and appliances typically found in their own homes.

The design of this training apartment includes no special modifications to kitchens and bathrooms to make such features accessible and replicates situations typically found in a person’s own home – including an exterior stair and entry door as well as an interior stair, doors, switches, and other elements.
