The University of Chicago has taken an aggressive stance in its commitment to bringing a high level of accessibility to its entire campus.  One of the critical aspects of the compliance work is upgrading the undergraduate and graduate student housing.  The University has set a goal of 3% accessible units for all of its existing housing.

Many of the housing units that the University now owns were originally rental apartments or hotels in the neighborhood surrounding the campus.  LCM has designed renovations to 37 different units. The units are a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units that include accessible kitchens and bathrooms.  Additional modifications have been made to each building to improve the accessible path of travel into and through the building and to the common use areas.
