Northeastern Illinois University Sachs Building

NEIU - Reception Area

Known as the “Beehive”, the Sachs Administration building was constructed as part of the original Northeastern Illinois University campus in 1961.  LCM was selected to plan and design a complete renovation of the building, including the exterior window wall.

In evaluating the floor plate, space plan options for open office/closed office were considered and evaluated by LCM and NEIU. The selected design eliminates most offices and utilizes system furniture, providing maximum natural light and views from the building. The design also separates public from private spaces, utilizing a secure reception area. The exterior window system was replaced both to achieve greater comfort and to increase energy efficiency. All of the major building mechanical and electrical systems were replaced in order to meet current industry standards.
