IIT Incubator Building - Exterior Elevation

Illinois Institute of Technology asked LCM to assist in the renovation of space within the 1944 Mies van der Rohe designed Engineering Research Building to create an “incubator facility” for use by start-up Bio - Tech companies.  The completed facility provides affordable, flexible space with wet and/or dry laboratory facilities and associated office spaces. The new design includes common-use elements such as a break room and shared equipment space.

Among the project’s technical challenges were very low floor-to-floor heights; structural infill to subdivide the two-story space; complete new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; historic restoration of existing windows; and coordination with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
